TESTIMONIALS
FROM SOME OF OUR BENEFICIARIES/MEMBERS
“I
had never thought I would be where I am today if LECDEN-KENYA
did not come to my rescue. They have helped me improve
on my livelihood and that of the children I teach at the
Riverside Day Care centre. Thank you LECDEN-KENYA and
friends and wellwishers in the USA” -
Gladys Atieno Arogo (Daycare
Teacher – Kiambiu slum)
“Before LECDEN-KENYA came to my rescue, the better part of my
life has been filled with sorrow and difficulties since
my husband died from HIV/AIDS in the year 2002. LECDEN-KENYA
brought relief to my life and that of my two kids after
they gave me some money to start a micro-enterprise in
2006” – Patricia Ambatsa –Kibera
Widow

“The
help that LECDEN-KENYA gave me cannot be explained in human
terms. I was suffering not

because I had a tumor but
because of the stigma I went through from my peers in
school. I had suffered from a jaw tumor from a tender
age of 5 years and I had to drop from school. Thanks to
LECDEN-KENYA I am now able to go to school and mix with the
other kids freely” – Jackson
Abujeka – Orphan, Kiambiu
“When
I was diagnosed with the HIV virus in 2003, the doctor
told me I had six months to live because my health had
been severely compromised by the virus. I just went to
stay at home as I waited to die. This was proved wrong
by LECDEN-KENYA and friends & wellwishers (volunteers) from USA,
who have been supporting me through medication and
nutrition since the year 2005. I thank them all for the
good work they are doing”
“I am always sure that
I will be attended to… unlike other places where I can
even be told that the Doctor is not in until tomorrow”

“Counseling
is restorative”, is the driving
slogan and motto in our work. Since its inception,
LECDEN-KENYA has always recognized and employed
counseling. Though largely unappreciated, counseling is
a unique strategy that is not only remedial, but
ultimately enables one to cope with an adverse condition
or circumstance. HIV infection is one such adverse
circumstance that has challenged people in an immense
way, thus the need to employ counseling. The emotional
and psychological trauma that HIV occasions onto people
infected with it, calls for the careful employment of
counseling services by qualified service providers.
LECDEN-KENYA has institutionalized counseling as a
form of care that goes beyond the physical human person,
a therapy that embraces the body and mind and enables
people to cope and live with an adverse situation,
learning and making progressive decisions out of
informed consent.
